Allegations of Research Misconduct

Allegations of Research Misconduct

Jurnal Teknologi Pangan (JTP) is committed to maintaining the integrity, credibility, and reliability of scientific publications. The journal takes allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously and handles them according to principles of fairness, confidentiality, transparency, and due process.

The journal's procedures are informed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidance.

1. Forms of Research Misconduct

Research and publication misconduct may include, but is not limited to:

a. Fabrication

Inventing research data, experimental results, observations, or other information that did not arise from actual scientific investigation.

b. Falsification

Manipulating research materials, equipment, experimental procedures, images, or data so that the research record does not accurately represent the work performed.

In food science research, this may include inappropriate manipulation of chromatographic data, laboratory measurements, microbiological counts, sensory evaluation results, or statistical analyses.

c. Plagiarism

Using another person's ideas, text, data, figures, or findings without proper acknowledgement.

d. Duplicate or Redundant Publication

Submitting or publishing substantially overlapping research findings in multiple publications without appropriate disclosure and justification.

e. Authorship Misconduct

Providing false authorship information, excluding legitimate contributors, or including individuals who do not qualify as authors.

f. Peer Review Manipulation

Providing false reviewer identities, interfering with independent peer review, or attempting to influence editorial decisions through deceptive practices.

g. Ethical Violations

Failing to comply with relevant ethical, institutional, legal, or scientific requirements, including those applicable to human participants, sensory evaluation, animal experimentation, and research data management.

2. Reporting Suspected Misconduct

Authors, reviewers, readers, and other parties may report suspected misconduct to the editorial office.

Email: jtp@upnjatim.ac.id

Reports should preferably include the article title, DOI or manuscript identification, description of the concern, and relevant supporting evidence.

Good-faith reports will be assessed objectively. The identity of complainants will be protected as far as reasonably possible and consistent with a fair investigation.

3. Investigation Procedure

The journal will follow these general steps:

  1. Initial assessment: The Editor in Chief evaluates whether the allegation is sufficiently specific and supported by relevant evidence.

  2. Conflict-of-interest assessment: Individuals with relevant conflicts of interest will not be involved in handling the allegation.

  3. Request for clarification: The journal may contact the corresponding author and other relevant parties to request explanations, original data, or supporting documents.

  4. Further investigation: Where necessary, the journal may consult independent experts or refer concerns to the relevant research institution.

  5. Editorial decision: The Editor in Chief determines appropriate editorial action based on the available evidence and applicable publication ethics guidance.

The journal may suspend editorial processing while serious allegations are being assessed.

4. Possible Outcomes

Depending on the findings, the journal may:

  • Close the case when concerns are not substantiated.

  • Request clarification or revision.

  • Reject a manuscript before publication.

  • Publish a correction or expression of concern.

  • Retract a published article.

  • Notify the relevant institution or appropriate authority when warranted.

The severity of the action will reflect the nature and extent of the concerns.

5. Fairness and Confidentiality

The journal will provide relevant parties with an appropriate opportunity to respond before reaching a decision.

Information obtained during an investigation will be handled confidentially, subject to the journal's obligations to protect the scholarly record and comply with applicable requirements.

Individuals involved in a complaint should not face retaliation for raising concerns in good faith.

6. Appeals

Authors or other affected parties may submit a reasoned appeal supported by relevant evidence.

Where appropriate, an independent editor or adviser who was not involved in the original decision may be consulted.

The journal will evaluate appeals fairly and communicate its final editorial decision.
