Conflict of Interest Policy

Conflict of Interest Policy

Jurnal Teknologi Pangan (JTP) is committed to ensuring that editorial decisions and scientific publications are free from inappropriate influence.

A conflict of interest may arise when financial, personal, professional, institutional, or other relationships could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, the objectivity of research, peer review, or editorial decision-making.

The existence of a potential conflict of interest does not necessarily constitute misconduct. However, full disclosure is essential for maintaining transparency and public confidence in scholarly publications.

1. Types of Conflicts of Interest

Potential conflicts of interest may include:

Financial interests: Research funding, consultancy fees, honoraria, employment relationships, stock ownership, patents, commercial sponsorship, or other financial arrangements.

Personal relationships: Family relationships, close friendships, personal disputes, or other relationships that may compromise impartial judgement.

Professional and academic interests: Recent collaborations, supervisory relationships, direct academic competition, or involvement in related research projects.

Institutional interests: Affiliations or organisational responsibilities that may influence manuscript assessment or editorial decisions.

In food science and technology, conflicts may also arise from relationships with food manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, laboratory service providers, product developers, or other commercial entities.

2. Responsibilities of Authors

All authors must disclose potential conflicts of interest when submitting a manuscript.

Authors should identify financial support, commercial relationships, and other interests that could reasonably affect the interpretation or presentation of research findings.

Where no conflicts exist, authors should provide the following statement:

"The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest relevant to this study."

The source of research funding should be disclosed separately where applicable.

Authors must also disclose whether funders or commercial sponsors influenced the study design, data collection, data analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, or publication decision.

3. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must disclose any circumstances that could compromise the impartiality of their review.

Reviewers should decline an invitation or inform the handling editor when a significant conflict exists, including close professional relationships, recent collaborations, or direct competitive interests involving the authors or research.

Reviewers must maintain confidentiality and must not use unpublished information for personal or professional advantage.

4. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are required to disclose potential conflicts of interest and must not handle manuscripts where their impartiality could reasonably be questioned.

Manuscripts submitted by editors, editorial board members, or their close collaborators must be managed by another appropriately qualified editor who has no relevant conflict.

Editorial decisions must be based on scientific merit, methodological quality, relevance, originality, and compliance with publication ethics.

5. Management of Conflicts of Interest

When a conflict is identified, the journal may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Request additional disclosure or clarification.

  • Assign a different editor or reviewer.

  • Seek an independent assessment.

  • Publish an appropriate disclosure statement.

  • Take corrective editorial action if a significant undisclosed conflict is discovered after publication.

6. Editorial Independence

The Editor in Chief and editorial team are responsible for maintaining independent editorial judgement.

Financial support, institutional affiliation, advertising, publication charges, or commercial relationships must not determine whether a manuscript is accepted or rejected.

Concerns about possible conflicts of interest may be submitted to jtp@upnjatim.ac.id.
